Serials — Serial Action Guide

Although this list is primarily for units who need to communicate information or problems about active serial titles to central technical processing units (Acquisitions or Cataloging), it may be useful to others – check with your supervisor before sending anything noted below.  NOTE: always include record nos. and title when making a request or reporting a problem.

Print serials:

Type of action or problem How/who to notify

Claiming (if unable to claim within your unit) Email to checkin@library.berkeley.edu
Address corrections Email to serpay@library.berkeley.edu (include mailing label information)
Duplicate receipts (with invoice) Send material and invoice to:

Duplicate receipts (subscription – 3 successive dups received) Email to serpay@library.berkeley.edu (include mailing label information) or send both labels to Acquisitions Dept. Attn. Don Lee
SEC – title change regardless of RLOC Send 1st issue with new title to SerCat after creating temp record in Millennium with cross reference to old title. Follow SEC procedures see: http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/asktico/procedures/serials-submitting-successive-entry-changes
Bibliographic information/correction (e.g.; title ceased; first supplement received; cumulative index received; numbering changes) Use BadCat  (FAQ & Form) [dead links]
Invoices (hardcopy) Send via campus mail to Acquisitions Dept./Sue Miller
Invoices (pdf emailed) Forward email to: serinv@lists.berkeley.edu
Written correspondence from publisher or vendor Follow instructions for closest situation.  If unable to interpret, email serpay@library.berkeley.edu
Notice of paid print only title becoming online only Online not wanted: Notify serpay@library.berkeley.edu and close record

Online wanted: use e-order form [dead link] (and notify serpay@library.berkeley.edu and close print record)

Notice of gift title becoming online only Close print holdings records. Notify serpay@library.berkeley.edu.  If necessary, follow freely available/open access procedures.
