In Gladis, notes used by catalogers to indicate that a title was to be analyzed or was an analytic were entered in the SLF field. These notes migrated to the 990 field of the bibliographic record in Millennium (as well as the legacy Gladis Data field in holdings records for serials and MVMs). However, it was decided that it is inappropriate to include this sort of information in bibliographic records going forward. Therefore, the following notes should be used:
TITLES BEING ANALYZED (aka “parents”):
For a serial that is being analyzed:
- Was in Gladis: UPI *s: fa, ma, ca, sa
- Was in Innopac: Check Note: ANAL, MONANAL, CONANAL, SUPANAL
- Use in Millennium:
Holdings record note type: Check Note (n)
note text: SERIAL ANALYZED FULL
SERIAL ANALYZED MONO
SERIAL ANALYZED CONF
SERIAL ANALYZED SUPP
Holdings record note type: UPI (g)
note text: <no change from Gladis>
Item record note type: Internal Note (x)
note text: analytic
The migrated Check Notes can (?) be updated programmatically by LSO; this may be unnecessary for inactive/ceased titles.
For an MVM that is being analyzed:
- Was in Gladis: SLF: MVM analyzed
- Was in Innopac: Check Note: <no consistent wording used; not always noted>
- Use in Millennium:
Holdings record note type: Check Note (n)
note text: MVM ANALYZED
SCORE ANALYZED (for MUSI only)
Item record note type: Internal Note (x)
note text: analytic
Active titles are few in number so existing holdings record notes can be reviewed and updated manually. There is no need to retroactively update notes for inactive/ceased titles.
For an MVM analytic that is also being analyzed (a “parent” that is also a “child”):
- Was in Gladis: SLF: MVM analyzed anal.
- Was in Innopac: Check Note: <no consistent wording used; not always noted>
- Use in Millennium:
Holdings record note type: Check Note (n)
note text: MVM ANALYZED analytic
Item record note type: Internal Note (x)
note text: analytic
Active titles are few in number so existing holdings record notes can be reviewed and updated manually. There is no need to retroactively update notes for inactive/ceased titles.
TITLES THAT ARE ANALYTICS (aka “children”):
For a single volume monograph that is an analytic:
- Was in Gladis: SLF: anal.
- Was in Innopac: n/a (item records were not implemented in Innopac)
- Use in Millennium:
Item record note type: Internal Note (x)
note text: analytic
This note can be added to all new item records going forward. There is no need to retroactively add notes to existing item records, except as needed for clarification, problem resolution, etc.
For an MVM that is an analytic:
- Was in Gladis: SLF: MVM anal.
- Was in Innopac: not consistently noted – holdings record not always created for analytic title
- Use in Millennium:
Holdings record note type: Check Note (n)
note text: MVM analytic
Item record note type: Internal Note (x)
note text: analytic
Active titles are few in number so the holdings record note can be added on an as-encountered basis. There is no need to retroactively update notes for inactive/ceased titles.
For a serial that is an analytic:
- Was in Gladis: SLF: SERIAL anal.
- Was in Innopac: not consistently noted – holdings record not always created for analytic title
- Use in Millennium:
Holdings record note type: Check Note (n)
note text: SERIAL analytic
Item record note type: Internal Note (x)
note text: analytic
Active titles are few in number so the holdings record note can be added on an as-encountered basis. There is no need to retroactively update notes for inactive/ceased titles.
The Check Note field for holdings records was chosen in preference to the Misc. Int. Note field in order to maintain continuity with Innopac practices, and consistency among different analytic scenarios.
